The following tools can be used to help you merchandise your grain more effectively. Most are Excel spreadsheets that will open up in a new window. You can input your own numbers and save the spreadsheet on your own computer. If you do not have Excel, you can download Open Office, a third party software suite comparable to Microsoft Office at OpenOffice.org for free.
Profit/Target Calculator
Breakeven Bushels Calculator- this tool allows you to determine the number of bushels that need to be produced per acre in order to breakeven with the costs invested per acre. It has space for corn, beans, and wheat for three years.
Production Costs Worksheet- this .pdf worksheet can help you determine your total costs for a crop. When divided by the number of acres farmed, it can give you a cost per acre that can be used in the Breakeven Bushels Calculator.
5 Step Plan- this tool will determine an appropriate target price for you based on your number of acres, expected yield per acre, total costs, and your desired profit. Once you have determined a target price, you can set up a target offer.
Profit Picture- this tool allows you to determine your total level of profit based on your number of acres, expected yield per acre, total costs, and expected price per bushel. Enter your own unique numbers into the grey boxes. There is a separate worksheet tab for each specific crop. This tool is very useful to determine how changes in price or costs can affect your profit levels.
